Shot Fired During Oregon Rap Show

McMenamin’s Crystal Ballroom in Portland, Ore., was evacuated early Aug. 12 after a shot rang out during a show featuring DJ Quik and McMenamin’s Crystal Ballroome. No one was injured, according to police.

“Preliminary information indicates that the suspect left immediately after the gunfire and that there may have been an argument just prior to the gunshots,” according to a release quoted by the Oregonian.

One concertgoer told the paper he believed the shot was fired near a stairwell or perhaps in a bathroom at the rear of the 1,500-capacity venue. He described “20 to 40” people running for the exit, but the act on stage continued performing – likely unaware a shot was apparently fired.

“Everybody cleared out of the center and pushed toward the edges and hovered and waited,” the witness said. The incident happened near the end of the concert.

Crystal Ballroom owner McMenamin’s said, in a statement provided to Pollstar, “We are thankful there were no injuries. The security of our guests is of utmost importance to us. We are reviewing our security procedures for all of our shows.”

A call to the Crystal Ballroom for further details wasn’t returned.
