The Augusta-Richmond County Coliseum Authority voted to move the arena from downtown to the vacant Regency Mall in the southern part of town, according to the Augusta Chronicle.

Augusta Mayor Hardie Davis said moving the arena would help bring economic growth to the south side, in addition to making the arena more accessible via highway.

Local concert promoter Joe Stevenson thinks the move will hurt Augusta’s downtown entertainment district. His petition on Change.org had more than 4,200 signatures as of Aug. 30. – Ron Camacho
