MGM Cancels Tonight’s Vegas Events

MGM canceled performances in Las Vegas tonight in response to the mass shooting at the Route 91 Harvest festival that killed at least 58 and injured more than 500.

MGM had a statement posted on its website at press time stating that all events for Oct. 2 would be canceled. MGM had  planned at its flagship venue,

“Following the recent tragic events, MGM Resorts has canceled all of its Las Vegas shows for Monday, Oct. 2,” the statement read. “Tickets purchased through the MGM Resorts website or call center will be automatically reimbursed on the original credit card used for the purchase. Tickets purchased with cash must be returned to any MGM Resorts Ticket Office by the original purchaser.”

MGM said in a statement it was “heartbroken for the victims, their families and our community.” It was from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino on Oct. 1 that a gunman opened fire on an estimated 22,000 in the Las Vegas Village festival grounds across the street as Jason Aldean performed. The company has since made counselors available to victims and created a hotline to help them arrange airfare and hotel accommodations. 

A rep from Cirque Du Soleil confirmed with Pollstar that all the company’s other shows in Las Vegas, including Blue Man Group performances, were canceled for the night.
