Ticketmaster started issuing refunds for the Sept. 30 concert Oct. 9.
Lil Wayne canceled his set after he refused to go through the venue’s metal detector. The concert at the 18,000-capacity venue in Columbia S.C. also featured performances from Cardi B, 2 Chainz and Tory Lanez.
Victory B. Pernell, representing Fall Ball promoters Victory Promotions, Ben Hated and MTS Entertainment, said the venue was at fault for Lil Wayne not performing as scheduled, reported The State.
“It was a huge and costly mistake. One of many errors made by Colonial Life Arena,” he said at an Oct. 9 news conference.
Pernell said the promoters proposed having law enforcement escort Lil Wayne directly to the stage after the rapper refused to go through the metal detector, but Colonia Life Arena declined.
“They agreed an hour later, but by that time Lil Wayne was gone,” Pernell said. “Colonial Life Arena shortchanged fans.”
Fans were left in the dark after the promoters refused to offer refunds for the concert in an Oct. 1 statement.
“Our promotional team never agreed to a refund,” Pernell said, reaffirming the statement.
They argued that refunds would not be dispersed because Lil Wayne was not headlining the event, but Pernell contradicted himself when he referred to the other performers as “opening acts.”
When addressing Lil Wayne’s issue with going through the metal detector, Pernell said, “Lil Wayne wants to be private. He didn’t want to go through the same entrance that lots of opening acts were going through.”
Lil Wayne previously spent eight months in jail for gun possession after police found a weapon in his tour bus in 2007.
