All Points East: AEG Takes Over Another London Park

AEG Presents, which trades as Goldenvoice in the UK, won a tender process for events in London’s Victoria Park, where it will promote a new festival called All Points East, followed by a headline-show weekend between May 25 and June 3, 2018.

The xx plays Golden 1 Center in Sacramento, Calif., Sept. 26.

The xx will headline the Saturday of All Points East, which takes place May 25-27. The two other confirmed acts are Popcaan and Lykke Li. The festival is followed by four-day midweek event aimed at the community of Tower Hamlet, the borough in which Victoria Park is located, and surrounding areas.

Comedy, food, outdoor cinema and more are going to be part of the program, and entrance to the park will be free on those four days. The second weekend, June 1-3, will see three headline shows promoted under the banner of APE Presents.

Goldenvoice confirmed The National as Saturday headliners. Support acts include The War on Drugs, Future Islands, Warpaint and The Districts, with more to be announced. Goldenvoice’s VP of live music, Laura Davidson, said more than 200 additional acts in total would be unveiled for the festival and headline-show weekend.

Jim King, executive vice president live music at AEG Presents, said, “We’re confident that this is the most exciting new event in the country.”

John Biggs, the mayor of Tower Hamlets, said AEG was selected as promoter “following a rigorous procurement process to deliver some exciting events in.”

AEG Presents/Goldenvoice secured the rights to promote events in Victoria Park for the next five years, which means competing events will need to find a new location.

Field Day, promoted by Eat Your Own Ears, which used to take place in Victoria Park, already announced it would be moving in 2018, when it will take place on June 2. A new location hasn’t been named.

Live Nation/Mama’s two Victoria Park festivals, Lovebox and Citadel, will have to move as well. No 2018 dates have been announced for either event, and the promoters declined to answer a request for comment sent by Pollstar.

All Points East and APE Presents follow a similar concept as AEG’s British Summer Time in Hyde Park event: two ticketed concert weekends with a free entertainment program in-between.

BST 2018 will take place July 6-15. Two headliners have already been announced: Roger Waters on the opening night and Bruno Mars on Saturday, July 14.
