Guitar-Shaped Hard Rock Hotel Under Way
Officials with the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Fla., launched a $1.5 billion expansion project Oct. 25 with traditional guitar smashing and fireworks and the announcement of a long-awaited guitar with rooms in it.

The project features a 450-foot-tall, guitar-shaped hotel tower under construction among many other amenities.
“It will be the first building in the world that’s truly to scale designed as an authentic guitar,” James “Jim” Allen, Seminole Gaming CEO and chairman of Hard Rock International said at a press conference. “So, it’s not just an exterior façade, the curving of the building will be identical to an authentic guitar.”
The project, scheduled for completion by summer 2019, includes a 10-acre complex that will have private cabanas with plunge pools, multiple waterfalls, beach club dining and watersports. A lagoon-style poolside “Bora Bora Experience” is said to be unique in the nation.
Also included in the project is demolition of the existing 5,500-seat Hard Rock Live venue in March. The new, $100 million Hard Rock Live will feature 7,000 seats in a theater-style setup. The facility is set to open mid-2019.
Officials said both the hotel tower and concert venue openings are planned with South Florida’s hosting of Super Bowl LIV at the Hard Rock Stadium in February 2020 in mind.
