Hundreds Rally For Meek Mill

Hundreds gathered in Philadelphia Nov. 13 to protest Meek Mill’s imprisonment.

Several celebrities joined the protest, including Rick Ross, Eagles player Malcom Jenkins and former 76er player Julius Erving, who spoke at a rally held near Philadelphia city hall.

Mill received two to four years in prison for violating probation from a 2008 drug and gun case. He was sentenced by Common Pleas judge Genece Brinkley, who said the rapper has ignored too many chances to clean up his act.

Joe Tacopina, Mill’s attorney, reportedly plans on appealing the decision and asking Brinkley to recuse herself from the case.

“[Meek’s] obviously despondent about this plight, so to speak, but also is encouraged by all the support,” Tacopina told CNN. “This is overwhelming to me, all of the people who have come rallying behind him.”

A change.org petition calling on the Pennsylvania Board of Pardons to relieve Mill’s sentence had more than 360,000 signatures at press time.
