The Limelight Eventplex in Peoria, Ill., has been purchased by the owners of another nearby venue, The Castle Theatre in Bloomington.

The terms of the deal weren’t disclosed but according to the Bloomington Pantagraph the 1,400-capacity venue will close after a New Year’s concert from

“Our initial reaction was that we had been going head-to-head with the Limelight for four years as our main competitor, and that this might get a little easier if we moved in instead of somebody else,” Castle co-owner Rory O’Connor told the paper.

We have records of 29 shows at the Limelight in 2017, a highlight of which was a sold-out show from Old Dominion Feb. 11. Tickets to that show went from $20 to $45 and the total gross was reported at $30,360.

The Castle Theatre still looms large in the market, with upcoming shows from acts like Led Zeppelin 2, Alejandro Escovedo, J.J. Grey & Mofro, Galactic, and Havok.

Pollstar reached out to Limelight Eventplex for comment but hadn’t heard back at press time.
