Japandroids Constructs Spring Routing In North America
John Davisson – Japandroids
BUKU Music + Art Project, New Orleans, La.
With the latest album approaching it’s one-year anniversary, Japandroids has unveiled a North American tour routing that includes multiple nights in Vancouver, Los Angeles and Philadelphia.
The first dates on the menu for Japandroids are at Fortune Sound Club in Vancouver, B.C. April 27-28. After that it’s headline gigs in San Francisco; Kansas City, Mo.; Denver; Salt Lake City; Boise, Idaho; Los Angeles and New York through May and into June.
There is also a two-nighter at Philadelphia’s Boot & Saddle July 24-25.
Tickets to those gigs go on sale to the general public Jan. 26.
Peppered through their schedule are festival appearances at Shaky Knees in Atlanta May 4; Governors Ball in New York June 2; and Mad Cool in Spain July 12. Tickets to those festivals are all on sale now.
The group’s latest album Near To The Wild Heart Of Life, came out Jan. 27, 2017 and was described by band member Brian King as “our first attempt to make a proper studio album,” according to The Independent. Prior to that, the group hadn’t released an album since 2012’s Celebration Rock and hadn’t done much touring since 2013.
One of the most endearing things about Japandroids is that they kept prices very, very low last year. Plenty of shows had average ticket prices around $18-$25 in 2017 according to their reported data, and their total reported gross on the year was $480,272. Their biggest paydays came at Terminal 5 in New York, 9:30 Club in Washington, D.C., The Fonda in Los Angeles and The Fillmore in San Francisco.
