Concert Pulse: Chicago, Evanescence, ‘Brain Candy’ Debut

With a whole new host of Grammy Awards in his possession, Bruno Mars is yet again No. 2 on Pollstar’s Global Concert Pulse, with an average gross of $2.9 million and 26,871 tickets per city.

Pollstar’s Global Concert Pulse ranks each artist by its average boxoffice gross per city worldwide and is based on data reported within the last three months. All figures in U.S. dollars.

With Grammy wins for album, song, record, R&B song, R&B album and R&B performance of the year, Mars also had a monster year on the road, with the No. 4 tour on Pollstar’s Worldwide Top 100 Tours chart for 2017, with more than $200 million grossed.

He still has 45 dates on the books, too, including a mini-residency in Las Vegas and a lengthy run in Australia followed by Asia and European dates.

Chicago is new on the chart this week, at No. 49, with an average gross of $169,683 and 2,112 average tickets. Average ticket price over the last three months was $80.33. Upcoming dates include nine at The Venetian Theatre in Las Vegas, as well as shows at the Arlington Theatre in Santa Barbara, Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza, and Five Glags Center in Dubuque, Iowa, with shows running to the end of May so far for 2018.

Also new and just behind Chicago at No. 50 is Evanescence, having just wrapped up a nice North American run called the “Synthesis Live” tour featuring a full orchestra to perform the band’s latest album of the same name.

The band, with powerful frontwoman Amy Lee on vocals, grossed an average of $158,622 per city and averaged 2,939 tickets sold. Venues included The Greek Theatre in Los Angeles, the Orpheum in Boston and the Paramount Theatre in Denver.

They’re taking the tour overseas for 2018, kicking off in Australia at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre Feb. 11 and then heading to Europe, with dates in Russia, the Czech Republic, Germany, the UK and ending in Belgium April 8.

New at No. 76 this week is “Brain Candy Live,” created by and featuring Adam Savage of “Mythbusters” fame and Vsauce’s Michael Stevens, a science-based tour that infuses learning with excitement.

Over the past three months, the tour grossed an average of $71,092 per night and 1,156 tickets sold. Average ticket price was $61.49.

Recent dates included Peabody Opera House in St. Louis, The Orpheum in Minneapolis, and Riverside Theatre in Milwaukee. There’s still plenty of dates on the books, too, with U.S. dates coast to coast taking them well into May and with secondary markets including Scranton, Pa., Albany, N.Y., and Modesto, Calif.
