Joan Jett & The Blackhearts Set Out On Co-Heading Tour With Styx

Joan Jett & The Blackhearts are teaming up with Styx for a massive U.S. co-headlining tour. Tesla is also joining the trip as an opener.

The outing kicks off May 30 at the FivePoint Amphitheatre in Irvine, Calif. The joint-tour hits venues all summer, including Denver’s Fiddler’s Green Amphitheatre, Boston’s Blue Hills Bank Pavilion, Toronto’s Budweiser Stage and Detroit’s DTE Energy Music Theatre, before wrapping at the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel, N.J., July 15.

Tickets go on sale Feb. 16 at 10 a.m. local time.

Styx, which consists of vocalist and guitarist Tommy Shaw, vocalist and guitarist James “JY” Young, keyboardist Lawrence Gowan, drummer Todd Sucherman and bassist Ricky Phillips, regularly top Pollstar’s Top Tours charts. Their tour last year with REO Speedwagon placed No. 155 on Pollstar’s 2017 Year End Top 200 North American Tours chart, with an average of 7,038 tickets sold each show and a typical gross of $248,387.

Highlights from the outing include concerts at the Los Angeles’ Greek Theatre, moving 5,267 tickets and grossing $344,747; Denver’s Pepsi Center, selling 10,012 tickets and grossing $334,628; and at the Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre in Tinley Park, Ill., selling 13,322 tickets and grossing $393,525.

Joan Jett & The Blackhearts spent most of last year opening for Boston, with the tour’s highest grossing show reported to Pollstar taking place at Los Angels’ Greek Theatre with 4,677 tickets sold and $327,093 earned.  The band also played a handful of solo dates, including a night at the Redding Civic Auditorium in Redding, Calif., which sold 1,482 tickets and grossed $93,960.
