Ryan Adams and producer Don Was have partnered for a one-night-only event in New Orleans to honor The Rolling Stones’ Exile On Main St. album.
“Happy,” “Tumbling Dice,” “Sweet Virginia” and “Rocks Off” are just a few of the songs from what was the first double album issued by The Stones. Ryan’s “Exile On Bourbon St.” event slated for May 5 at Saenger Theatre will feature some of New Orleans’ finest musicians offering their interpretations of the 46-year-old L.P.
Released in 1972, Exile On Main Street has been hailed by many artists and music fans as one of the best rock ’n’ roll albums ever made. Just ask Don Was, who remixed the album for its 2010 re-release and has taken on the role of music director for the “Bourbon St.” concert.
“I’ve listened to all the multi-track tapes from the Exile period and it’s not hyperbolic to say that this is probably the greatest rock ’n’ roll ever recorded! I can’t wait to dig deep into these songs with The Mighty Ryan Adams and this incredible group of musicians,” Was said.
The force behind the show is Blackbird Presents, the same outfit that handles the “Second Weekend At The Saenger” concert series. “New Orleans Waiting For Columbus” and “The Last Waltz New Orleans: A Celebration Of The 40th Anniversary Of The Last Waltz” are just a couple of the many special events produced by the company and its CEO, Keith Wortman.
With a lineup yet to be announced, tickets for “Exile On Bourbon St.’ go on sale April 2 at 10 a.m. CDT.
