Live Nation’s Harbor Yard: Connecticut Shed To Host 50-75 Events Annually
The plans for the Harbor Yard music venue in Bridgeport, Conn., were unveiled March 28 by Live Nation and government officials. The venue will be a 5,500-capacity amphitheater and is being converted from what was formerly the home of the minor league Bridgeport Bluefish baseball team.
Ground is set to break on the project in the coming months, with 50 to 75 events expected to draw 250,000 annually according to The Connecticut Post. The venue is expected to open in spring 2019, according to the paper.
Live Nation Connecticut President Jim Koplik was reportedly at the ceremony for the unveiling of the plans, claiming that the company intends to “put Bridgeport on the concert map,” the Post reported.
The deal to convert the ballpark into an amphitheatre was based around the formation of Harbor Yard LLC, a partnership between Live Nation and SportsCenter of Connecticut-owner Howard Saffan, the Stratford Star reported in August. The venue will remain publicly owned, according to the paper.
Harbor Yard will be located next to Webster Bank Arena, which also hosts concerts. The city of Bridgeport hosted the Gathering Of The Vibes festival for years before it was called off in 2016.
