FYF Fest has announced it will be back in 2018 with headline performances from Florence + The Machine and Janet Jackson.
The initial announcement regarding the festival’s return came through its social media pages March 29. The fest will be held Exposition Park in Los Angeles July 21-22, and will feature performances from Future, The xx, St. Vincent, My Bloody Valentine and more.
Festival passes go on sale April 6 at noon local time.
Just the fact that the festival is returning is welcome news to those who thought it was done when Goldenvoice ended its relationship with the festival’s co-founder Sean Carlson Nov. 13.
The announcement of GV’s decision came via email from CEO Paul Tollett. “Effective immediately Goldenvoice has ended its relationship with Sean Carlson,” Tollett wrote to agents. “We’re evaluating our path forward as it relates to FYF Fest. Please have your agents direct all matters regarding Coachella booking directly to me.”
While Tollett’s language did not explicitly reference allegations of misconduct levied against Carlson, the embattled promoter eventually addressed the accusations with a letter on Facebook, writing: “Several years ago, I was a part of the problem. I behaved inappropriately towards women and these actions were unacceptable.
“I am genuinely, unequivocally sorry. I lay fault at no one’s feet but my own. I am ashamed by how I acted and feel terrible for the pain that I have caused.”
FYF – or Fuck Yeah Fest – was founded by Carlson in 2004 and initially took place at a banquet hall that is now EchoPlex in the Echo Park section of Los Angeles. It quickly took off and moved to Los Angeles State Historic Park in 2009 where it remained until construction at the site forced a move to Exposition Park.
Goldenvoice and parent AEG Live partnered with Carlson to produce the festival beginning in 2011, and remained collaborators until 2017. A press announcement for 2018 event says Goldenvoice is now the sole owner of the festival. The team working on the festival is led by Jennifer Yacoubian and Tollett, along with former FYF Presents team Dave Peterson and Emily Twombly.
Just as in previous years FYF Fest is donating $1 of every ticket sold to charity.
