Boxoffice Insider: Lana Del Rey, Milky Chance Agents Talk Tickets

Milky Chance sits at No. 51 on the Pollstar Global Concert Pulse, which ranks tours by average gross over the past three months with an average gross of $59,858 and 1,727 tickets sold at an average of $34.65 per ticket.

Their booking agent, Jbeau Lewis at UTA, says the German folk/pop/electronic group sold out “the vast majority” of their recent tour of 24 shows in major North American markets.

“They’re a guaranteed seller between 2,000 and 4,000 tickets just about anywhere in North America,” Lewis told Pollstar, adding that major shows sold out in advance including the Hollywood Palladium, Hammerstein Ballroom in New York and the House of Blues Boston.

“Canada has really proven to be an outstanding market for them over the years,” Lewis added. “We go a bit deeper into Canada than we do with most other acts, especially European acts, but [they hit] Winnipeg, Saskatoon, not to mention the obvious ones like Vancouver and Toronto. They’re a massive act in Quebec because of the European and French influence. We’re not scared about testing new markets and building the fan base that way.”

Lewis said after European dates and festivals this summer such as the just announced Sea.Hear.Now in Asbury Park, N.J., there will be more headlining in the fall, in similar-sized rooms and secondary markets this time.

“By the time we get through this album cycle we will have played 60 or 70 different markets in North America,” Lewis said.

Her agent, CAA’s Carole Kinzel, told Pollstar: “Although Lana’s greatest joy is creating music in the studio, one would never know that when she takes the stage. She has one of the strongest, most personal relationships with her audience that I have ever seen with any artist. Her songs strike an emotional chord with her fans and they are devoted to her. “

She just finished playing Australia and has European arenas coming up in April. She’s especially popular in the U.K. where she’s had three No. 1 albums according to the Official U.K. Charts Company.

“She has a fantastic voice with a broad vocal range that often surprises people when they see her live show for the first time,” Kinzel said. “Her stage set, her performance and her interaction with her band and dancers reflect a whimsical nature that is often not evident just listening to her music. She lets you experience the emotional highs and the lows of her musical repertoire during the entire course of the evening.”

Over the last three months, Lana Del Rey has averaged a gross of $745,624 per show and 9,357 tickets sold on her recent U.S. arena touring.

Her first-quarter touring was good enough to put her at No. 24 on the 1Q Top 100 Tours chart, with 111,214 tickets sold as reported to Pollstar, just behind “Paw Patrol Live.”

She recently wrapped up a headline run of American arenas with reports to Pollstar including 12,771 tickets (sold out) to Air Canada Centre in Toronto Jan. 15, which grossed $1.06 million, 10,918 tickets sold Jan. 19 to Prudential Center in New Jersey ($865,985), 7,178 tickets sold to Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, which grossed $568,702, and Feb. 10 at the Toyota Center in Houston, which sold 9,202 tickets and grossed $868,366 on the Live Nation tour. Her average ticket price was $82.01.

She most recently just played South American fests including Lollapalooza Brazil in Sao Paulo, which had headliners including Red Hot Chili Peppers, Pearl Jam, and The Killers and sold out 300,000 tickets grossing $23.4 million March 23-25.
