Kansas-based promoter Adam Hartke is planning on opening a new 3,300-capacity venue in Wichita, Kan.

The venue, dubbed Wave, will have an outdoor performance area complete with a beer garden and food truck area, in addition to a smaller inside room with a capacity of 500.

The venue’s name is inspired by a high-tech lighting system that the indoor room will utilize.

“Indoors there will be a cool lighting concept similar to what you would see on a sound stage,” Hartke told Pollstar. “We’ll have an ever-changing lighting grid overhead and utilize projection and LED technology that will project unique patterns on the walls.”

Hartke is the co-owner of Wichita’s 1,166-capacity Barleycorn’s and a partner of the 1,470-capacity Cotillion.  He also books Wichita’s Riverfest and worked at the Wichita Orpheum Theatre as operations and promotions manager.

He said Wave will be Wichita’s first dedicated outdoor venue and will book most of its shows May through October.

“As far as an outdoor space, Wichita doesn’t have one. The venues here operate fall, winter and spring and then they die down, so this will be a great outdoor space for acts to play throughout the summer,” he said.

Construction on the $3.1 million project is expected to be completed by late August.
