The SMG and Disco Donnie Presents co-produced event usually takes place over Labor Day weekend in El Paso’s Ascarate Park, according to ElPaso 411.

“Each year, the Disco and SMG teams work diligently to ensure every single time you enter the gates of Sun City Music Festival, the best possible experience awaits you. Throughout the calendar year, the SCMF team works extremely hard to meet this momentous task with rigorous standards in place,” Disco Donnie Productions said in a statement posted to social media. “We don’t believe that goal can be accomplished in 2018. As a result, we’re sad to say Sun City Music Festival will not be held this Labor Day Weekend.”

The statement also said organizers “hope to return in 2019 and greatly appreciate all of your support over the past years.”

The event has been El Paso’s only EDM-dedicated festival since opening in 2011. Past artists to play the festival include David Guetta, Zeds Dead, Yellow Claw, Marshmello, Galantis and many others.

Sunset City is the second festival to be recently canceled by Disco Donnie Productions, as the company called off its Fort Worth, Texas, EDM festival Something Wonderful in January.

The promoter, who partnered with LiveStyle last year, also produces Sunset Music Festival in in Tampa, Fla., and Ultimate Music Experience in South Padre Island, Texas.

Sun City’s cancellation comes only days after Goldenvoice canceled this year’s FYF Fest in Los Angeles.
