The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo will host country legend George Strait for one night in March.  You’ll have some time to make your plans because tickets won’t go on sale until next year.

Strait’s only 2019 gig in Texas wasn’t the only news organizers released this week.  The annual rodeo and music extravaganza has added one more day to its grand plan, bringing the entire run to 21 days – Feb. 25 to March 17.

Strait will perform at NRG Stadium March 17.  No rodeo action is planned for that day, but ground activities will be in full swing, including shopping, dining, carnival, livestock, and horse show competitions.

So far, Strait is the only performer on the 2019 lineup.  Garth Brooks book-ended the rodeo in 2018 with his Feb. 27 concert launching the festivities and his March 18 show wrapping up the fun.

When Strait announced his 2013 “The Cowboy Rides Awaty” roadtrip, he said that outing would be his last tour ever.  Since then he’s done the occasional special date, such as his 2017 concert at San Antonio’s Majestic Theatre that benefited Hurricane Harvey victims.

Straight has been playing weekend residency shows at Las Vegas’ T-Mobile Arena since 2016.  Every show reported to Pollstar was sold-out, with only the ticket prices varying on some dates.  His Feb. 2-3, 2017 performances with special guest Lyle Lovett sold all 30,108 tickets and grossed $3,435,070.

Strait’s  2018 calendar includes May 27 at the Bayou Country Superfest at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, June 1-2 at BOK Center in Tulsa, Okla., and June 3 at the Frank Erwin Center in Austin, Texas.  His T-Mobile Arena shows in Vegas are scheduled for Dec. 7-8.

Organizers plan to release the complete schedule in January, which is also the month individual tickets for Strait and other concerts go on sale.  Keep checking Pollstar’s Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo/RodeoHouston page for updates.
