‘Expect To Get Very Sweaty’: The Streets Back On Tour In 2019

Looks like the European warm-up dates in April whet Mike Skinner’s appetite for more. He’s returning with The Streets in 2019, for 28 dates throughout Europe.

Mike Skinner played his first live show with The Streets in seven years at Berlin’s 800-capacity Heimathafen Neukölln, April 11. What followed were a couple more warm-up shows on mainland Europe at Amsterdam’s Melkweg (1,500 capacity) and Paris’ Cabaret Sauvage (1,000).

The tour continued at the Olympia Theatre (1,240) in Dublin, Ireland, before hitting the O2 Academies in Birmingham, England (3,000) and Glasgow, Scotland (2,500). Skinner then returned to England to play Manchester’s O2 Apollo (3,500), Leeds’ O2 Academy (2,300), and closed with three shows at London’s O2 Academy Brixton (4,900), the last of which took place April 27.

“The crowds on the April tour were phenomenal, Mike enjoyed it so much that by the time he’d done the warm up shows, he decided that he would like to go again in 2019,”  Skinner’s agent Peter Elliot of Primary Talent told Pollstar.

He said, “The April run in the U.K. was just over 25,000 tickets, they all went within three minutes of going on sale. We only put up 6,500 in mainland Europe, as warm-up shows to the UK, but they flew out also.”

Which is why the 2019 dates on mainland Europe will move into bigger venues, such as the 3,500-cap Columbiahalle in Berlin or the 2,000-capacity Olympia in Paris.

Skinner and his team are feeling good about what is dubbed “The Darker The Shadow The Brighter The Light Part 2,” named after one of Skinner’s recent solo tracks. “Mike is in genius form, and the band is better than ever. It’s very exiting to have them back out on the road,” said Elliot.

He also revealed a bit of what fans can expect, when the tour kicks off at the O2 Academy Birmingham, Jan. 17. “The Streets shows are reminiscent of old-school raves in euphoric atmosphere. Expect a set of the best Streets tunes drawn from the five albums, with one or two new songs thrown in for good measure, with an up for it, sing-along audience. Expect to get very sweaty.”

The tour is promoted by SJM, tickets are sold through Ticketmaster and See Tickets. Most of the UK dates are already sold out.
