Capital One Arena Promotes Powell To SVP, GM
Michele Powell has been promoted to senior VP and general manager at Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C.
Powell was VP of events and assistant GM before the promotion. She will be in charge of venue/event security and guest relations, and retain responsibilities for booking, event management, box office, accessible seating, marketing and communications for events.
Formerly Michele Montague, she recently took the name Powell upon marriage. She started working with Monumental Sports and Entertainment – which owns and operates the arena, the NHL’s Capitals, the NBA’s Wizards, the WNBA’s Mystics – in 2011 as booking director.
Formerly the Verizon Center, Capital One Arena took its new name in 2017, and has become an integral part of the D.C. market. Capital One Arena came in at No. 21 on Pollstar’s Mid Year Worldwide Ticket Sales Top 200 Arenas chart with 270,743 tickets reported.
The venue is set to host headliners like Shakira in August, Drake/Migos, Kevin Hart, Nicki Minaj/Future and Elton John in September, and Maroon 5, Phil Collins and J. Cole in October.
