Steve Vai’s Jamathon Adds Navarro, Moby, Dweezil Zappa, Al DiMeola, More
All-time guitarist Steve Vai will host and serve as the musical director for “The Big Mama-Jama Jamathon” — being described as “an open, improvisational music/art event,” being held for 52 hours on September 28-30 to mark the opening of Musicians Institute’s LiveHouse in L.A. All profits will benefit Extraordinary Families, a nonprofit foster family, adoption agency in the Los Angeles area dedicated to improving the daily lives of children and youths in foster care.
The lineup includes Dave Navarro, Moby, Dweezil Zappa, Al Di Meola, Steve Morse, Lee Ritenour, Andy Vargas and Souleros along with “celebrities, painters, poets, magicians, visual artists, speakers and other creative performers from all genres” for an “in-the-moment,” continuous 52-hour jam with Vai directing the band and jammers in an impromptu setting. The current schedule is available here:
The entire event will be streamed worldwide at www.jamathon.org, www.vai.com, and Vai’s official Facebook page.
Livehouse is a multi-purpose, art-centered, community-rooted venue opening on the Hollywood campus of Musicians Institute.
Said Vai: “I currently serve on the board of Extraordinary Families and it is an honor to be involved with this organization, and to host something like this that will benefit so many children and families.”
