He was accorded its Jim Reeves International award for outstanding contribution to country music’s acceptance through the world. Sydney-based Potts spent much of his time in the U.S., and through friendships with Brooks And Dunn, Alan Jackson, Tim McGraw and Toby Keith encouraged them to finally tour Down Under.
It opened a lucrative tour circuit, which also saw the CMC Rocks Queensland festival, which he set up with Michael Chugg, a regular sellout. At the presentation in Nashville, U.S. country broadcaster Storme Warren recalled that of Potts’ many qualities, honesty was one.
Enchanted by Australia on his first visit, Warren enthusiastically mused about moving to Australia.
Potts pulled no punches: “Warren, you’re no use to me in Australia.”
The award was accepted by Potts’ son, Jeremy Dylan, who now runs Entertainment Edge.
