Turnpike Troubadours Cancels Tour Dates To Handle Internal Issues
John Davisson – Turnpike Troubadours
Austin City Limits Music Festival, Zilker Park, Austin, TX
Turnpike Troubadours announced in a statement Oct. 30 that it is suspending all tour dates through Nov. 29 to support a close team member with a personal struggle.
The statement, posted on Twitter and Facebook, states that band members, road crew, business team and even the fan base are considered members of a large family, and that a key member of that family was going through a serious personal situation that requires the band’s complete attention.
“We do NOT take this incredible blessing of playing our music for our fans all over the world for granted. As much as we would all love to keep touring, we love our family member more and need to be there to make sure he is able to conquer the issues with which he is struggling,” the statement reads. “He has our support 100 percent and we will be here to walk beside him and carry him if needed, no matter the outcome.”
Turnpike Troubadours’ routing was to hit destinations like Varsity Theater in Minneapolis; House of Blues in Chicago; and The Pageant in St. Louis.
The group’s next scheduled show is now a two-night stand at Austin City Limits Live at The Moody Theater in Austin Nov. 30 and Dec. 1. After that there are U.S. headline dates booked into 2019.
Turnpike Troubadours’ business varies pretty widely from market to market. In places like the Lime Kiln Theater in Lexington, Va., the band sold out 575 tickets for a $17,250 gross June 28. By no means is this bad, but it pales in comparison to shows like the one they played two days later at 9:30 Club in Washington, D.C., where they grossed $42,000 on 1,200 tickets. Just a month later the band hit Texas and brought in $143,930 on 4,500 tickets at White Oak Music Hall in Houston and $152,625 on 5,240 tickets at Whitewater Amphitheater in New Braunfels.
The statement does not address whether the shows will be rescheduled or whether refunds will be provided at the point of purchase.
