Others on the bill to play the Minneapolis Convention Center are Ghastly, Nghtmre, Rich The Kid, Yung Gravy, and Manic Focus, who is co-managed by Silver Wrapper Presents’ Michael Berg, talent buyer for festivals including Suwannee Hulaween in Florida and North Coast Festival in Chicago.
This year’s Snowta NYE will have a payment plan available, with two-day GA tickets starting at $180 before fees. VIP options are available.
This year’s event also includes freestyle motocross, mega skate park, snowboard rail jam, an arcade and more.
Skrillex just played major Japanese festival Fuji Rock, with Paradigm agent Lee Anderson telling Pollstar there are big plans for him on the road over the next couple of years. Skrillex is billed as doing a New Year’s Eve countdown at Snowta, headlining the second night.
Marshmello has been playing festivals for much of 2018, but has recent headline reports including three shows at Boston’s House of Blues, which sold out 7,174 tickets and grossed $294,782 in April. He also sold out two nights at the Bill Graham Civic Center in San Francisco in January, with 17,600 tickets moved and $873,447 grossed.
Last year’s Snowta featured Pretty Lights, Excision, Post Malone, and Gucci Mane, with promoters Zack Chazin and Alex Heiligman telling Pollstar the indie event has been able to punch above its weight.
“New Year’s Eve is the biggest party day of the year, and also the most competitive as far as booking fees,” Chazin said. “It’s pretty mind-boggling that two small indie promoters from Minneapolis are rivaling Decadence, Snow Globe and other large-scale events. I feel that we have accomplished that.”
The Minneapolis-St. Paul market has thriving electronic and hip-hop communities that have traditionally been underserved, according to Heiligman, who co-manages Ganja White Night. “They’re both thriving groups here in the city and have very dedicated scenes, but there’s not much crossover as far as people doing events putting them together. We’re trying to connect the dots and do something really unique. This is providing something that’s definitely been missing from the market,” Heiligman said
They have promoted and co-promoted concerts under the Snowta Fest brand as well, with recent shows by red-hot rapper Juice WRLD at Myth, Rusko at First Avenue and Ugly God at The Varsity Theatre.
Chazin is also involved in the 515 Alive Music Festival in Des Moines, Iowa, which this year has Future, Bassnectar, Ganja White NIght, RL Grime, Cashmere Cat, Lil Xan and many others Aug. 17-18 at Water Works Park.
