Ariana Grande added several dates to her Sweetener World Tour on Monday. The routing give her second shows in Los Angeles, Chicago, Miami, Toronto, Philadelphia, Boston, Brooklyn, New York and Washington, D.C.
The dates bring the 25-year-old pop star’s 2019 tour, which kicks off March 18 in Albany and now concludes June 26 in Toronto, to a total of 51 dates. As with the tour’s other shows, Normani and Social House will serve as openers. In 2017, Grande sold 879,164 tickets worldwide for a gross of $66.5 million.
The announcement caps a massive year for Grande, whose fourth studio album Sweetener debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s albums chart. Today, her standalone single “Thank U, Next,” which spent three weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100 upon its Nov. 3 release, returned to the chart’s peak, after Travis Scott’s “Sicko Mode” dethroned it for a week. Her Sweetener singles “No Tears Left to Cry” and “God Is A Woman” also reached the Hot 100’s top 10.
Curiously, despite being among the year’s most critically acclaimed and commercially successful releases, Sweetener garnered only two Grammy nominations when they were announced last week — and only in genre-specific categories, for Best Pop Solo Performance and Best Pop Vocal Album. Grande has previously received four Grammy nominations, but has never won.
Grande’s professional success has coincided with personal hardship. A May 2017 terrorist attack outside her concert in Manchester, England killed 22 and injured many more. Less than a month later, Grande returned to Manchester with stars including Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry and Pharrell Williams to stage the One Love Manchester benefit concert.
Earlier this year, Grande’s ex-boyfriend Mac Miller died of an accidental drug overdose.
