The Marshall Tucker Band is preparing to hit the road again, having just wrapped a string of dates in support of Southern rock brethren Lynyrd Skynyrd on that band’s “Last of the Street Survivors” farewell tour.

In its 48th year of trekking the highways and byways, Marshall Tucker Band launches “Through Hell & High Water … And Back” January 4 at the Capitol Theatre in Clearwater, Fla., and Fort Lauderdale’s Parker Playhouse before taking to the high seas for the Southern Rock Cruise Jan. 6-12.

Once back on land, MTB will perform Feb. 22-23 at Walhalla Performing Ars Center in South Carolina before heading west to Las Vegas, where the road warriors will start the caravan in earnest March 1 at the Golden Nugget. The first leg of the tour – 28 shows, not including the cruise – is booked through June 29 in Webster, Mass., but more dates are expected to be announced soon on the band’s official website.

“When we started the band in the early ’70s, we did it for beer money on the weekends,” reminisces Marshall Tucker Band lead singer Doug Gray. “Never in a million years would I have believed that we’d still be out here jammin’ for as long as we have. What a journey… onward we ride!”

The Marshall Tucker Band, founded in Spartanburg, S.C., tapped the wellspring of Southern rock in the 1970s with bands like Skynyrd, The Allman Brothers Band,  and 38 Special. With hits including “Can’t You See,” “Heard It In A Love Song,” and “Fire On The Mountain,” MTB has sold millions of records and hundreds of thousands of concert tickets along the way.  In the last three years, it’s averaged

1,040 tickets per show and reported average grosses of about $54,000 performing mainly in clubs and theaters.
