Gang of Four is following up its critically-acclaimed 2015 album, What Happens Next, with a new full-length due out in March, preceded by a run of February dates throughout the U.S.
Happy Now is due out March 1 via PledgeMusic, 40 years after the release of the band’s groundbreaking debut, Entertainment, which Pitchfork included in its list of the Top Ten Albums of the ‘70s and MOJO called a “record that changed the world.”
The new album promises to dive “deeper into the heart of the classic GO4 sound with a modern slant,” with a “body of anthemic songs of modern confusion.” Pre-orders for Happy Now are ongoing.
“Happiness is always an odd one; so difficult to pin down. Our personal lives are always a mixture-sad things, tragedy, joy,” founding member Andy Gill said in a statement. “When we were younger we thought things would gradually get better: the world would be less sexist, less racist, progress would be made and now we know that history isn’t linear; it’s very capable of U-turns.”
The post-punk band – featuring Gill on guitar, John “Gaoler” Sterry on vocals, Thomas McNeice on bass, and Tobias Humble on drums – kicks off its U.S. tour with a handful of shows in California, starting with a Feb. 4 show in Tustin. Here’s the plan:
