Quirky festival Burger Boogaloo will return — for a 10th year — next July, Southern California label Burger Records announced on Wednesday.
In additional news that’s almost as exciting, the one-of-a-kind John Waters will return as host for a fifth consecutive year.
On July 6-7, the Boogaloo descends on Oakland’s Mosswood Park yet again for what a press release describes as a “foot stompin’, ear throbbin’ extravaganza celebrating 10 years of filth.”
“Burger Boogaloo is the perfect cult gathering of young and old music rebels who hate everybody in the world except each other,” Waters said in a statement. “Being asked to host this lunatic festival for the fifth year in a row makes me feel all warm and scuzzy inside.”
Though the lineup remains unannounced — an unveiling is slated for Jan. 15 — it’ll likely be a good one. This year Devo and The Damned headlined the event; in 2017, Iggy Pop, Buzzcocks and X topped the bill. Other performers in recent years have included The Mummies, Thee Oh Sees, Shannon & the Clams, Black Lips, Mudhoney, NRBQ and Ty Segall’s Traditional Fools.
Boogaloo also announced a partnership with the Homeless Action Center “to help those who call Mosswood Park their home year-round.” The organization provides free and accommodating legal representation to help the homeless and at-risk improve their lives.
Weekend passes cost $129 and $199 for general admission and VIP, respectively, but a special holiday deal lowers those prices to $99 and $149. Tickets for the event are on sale now.
