Mudslides in Southern California nearly swept Soulja Boy and his car into the ocean Jan. 5, but the rapper managed to escape the ordeal with his life.

“Was involved in a very bad car accident last night due to a flash flood and mudslide,” Soulja Boy wrote on Twitter. “I still haven’t got my car back, it’s stuck in the water in the middle of the mudslide/flood.” He followed the news that he hadn’t got his car back with a post on Instagram stating, “I’m just thankful to be alive, I don’t care about the car it’s materialistic you can’t take it with you when you’re gone.”

SoCal’s Pacific Coast Highway was shut down after violent storms caused mudslides Jan. 5. Crews were still towing away trapped cars and clearing lanes Jan. 6, but no injuries had been reported at press time.

Soulja Boy is coming fresh off what he has described as “The biggest comeback of 2018,” citing his latest record deal with Entertainment One, four television shows, his Fashionnova endorsement deal, and his video game consoles as evidence of his resurgence. He released the singled “HML” Jan. 4.

The last time Soulja Boy reported a show was in 2014, when he reported 266 tickets sold at The Crocodile in Seattle for a gross of $7,285.
