Jeff Tweedy Extends North American Solo Tour
Jeff Tweedy will be spending more time on the road this spring, with today’s announcement adding a dozen gigs to his solo North American solo tour.
The new dates are scheduled March 31 through April 18, including stops in Toronto, Pittsburgh, Boston, New York, Louisville and Cincinnati. Presales for the new shows begin Jan. 9 at 7 p.m. local and general onsales begin Jan. 11 at 7 p.m. local. James Elkington and Buck Meek are splitting support duties on the outing.
Tweedy’s 2018 solo tour included sold-out shows at Seattle’s Moore Theatre Sept. 30 ($73,575 gross), Minneapolis’ Pantages Theatre Sept. 21 ($43,989 gross), and two nights at Chicago’s Vic Theatre April 27-28 ($150,909 gross).
The Wilco frontman is supporting WARM, which was released in late November. Although the album is his second solo release, it marks his first collection of original solo material.
A four-star review from Rolling Stone’s Jonathan Bernstein praises WARM as deeply moving and proclaims, “With his veteran band currently on hiatus, this is convincing proof that Jeff Tweedy’s non-Wilco detours have become more than mere side projects to fill gaps between albums but rather, precious, intimate portraits of a songwriter who’s willing to openly display more of his scars than ever before.”
Pitchfork gave the album an 8.3 rating and its “Best New Music” stamp of approval. Associated staff writer Sam Sodomsky declares, “After hearing Tweedy trade riffs and sprawl out with full bands for so long, WARM’s solo setting feels fresh. This is his most threadbare collection of music. Songs drone on as long as he wants or stop abruptly once he runs out of words. This spontaneity allows Tweedy’s wisdom to feel both casual and all-encompassing: worn-in proverbs that just occurred to him, as he elaborates and pokes holes in his own fatalist tendencies.”
WARM came out a few weeks after Tweedy’s memoir, “Let’s Go (So We Can Get Back).” The memoir earned high marks from music publications as well as media such as The Washington Post, with writer John Lingan noting, “‘Let’s Go’ shows how Tweedy’s prolific and musically varied career is the result of a restless creative streak that helped him find meaning and a place in the world.”
Fans can catch Tweedy performing tonight on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” His 2019 solo tour begins with four nights at Los Angeles’ Largo at the Coronet Theatre. The new dates are bolded below.
