Breakaway Festival Announces Dates, New Nashville Site
Columbus-based festival promoter Prime Social Group has announced dates and locations for its flagship Breakaway Music Festival that takes place in Columbus, Ohio; Grand Rapids, Mich,; Charlotte, N.C., and will return to Nashville for its second time at a new location.
Kicking off the events is the Breakaway Columbus and Grand Rapids, both Aug. 23-24 at MAPFRE Stadium and Belknap Park respectively.
Breakaway Charlotte will take place Oct. 4-5 at AvidXchange Music Factory Festival Grounds, while Breakaway Nashville will be Oct 11-12 at its new home of Fair Park at the Nashville Fairgrounds.
Pre-registration for tickets is available, with general onsale Feb. 6.
Collectively, the Breakaway series hosted 65,000 attendees last year. Past lineups have included rising talent such as Migos, Odesza, Kaskade, Travis Scott and many others.
Prime Social Group managing partners Zach Ruben and Adam Lynn have expanded rapidly by focusing mostly on under-served college markets and college-targeted events while keeping ticket prices low. With a network of about 20 festival properties, including the Prime Music Festival brand, PSG is able to put out offers to artists for multiple events rather than a single festival.
“The biggest expense at any festival is your talent,” Ruben told Pollstar previously. “We’ve been lucky enough that a lot of the agents and agencies we’ve developed relationships with understand the markets we’re in and they relay that to their clients.
“They say you should go do this show in Lansing for maybe 25 percent or 30 percent less than you normally play in the market for, because it’s Lansing – it’s not Detroit, or Grand Rapids, and definitely not Chicago. “First and foremost we have to negotiate and partner with these artists and agents to book them at an affordable price so our ticket prices can stay relatively affordable.”
