Vampire Weekend announced its first major tour since 2014 on Wednesday.

Kicking off on May 17 with a headline appearance at Alabama’s Hangout Music Festival, the tour extends into the fall, concluding with an Oct. 8 date at Red Rocks Amphitheatre.

Along the way, the seminal indie-rock group will play venues including New Yorks’ Madison Square Garden and Los Angeles’ Hollywood Bowl.

Vampire Weekend released their first three albums between 2008 and 2013, and toured relentlessly during that period. When supporting 2013’s Modern Vampires of the City, the band enjoyed high billing at festivals such as Lollapalooza and Coachella and headlined Brooklyn’s Barclays Center, selling 11,705 tickets for a gross of $561,314.

But the band all but disappeared after that tour wrapped in mid-2014. Last year, the band began to play small gigs at Southern California clubs, before headlining several summer festivals overseas. Vampire Weekend’s only American festival gig in 2018 was Lollapalooza; the band sold 1,079 tickets for a gross of $48,555 at an affiliated aftershow at Chicago’s Metro.

For this tour, Vampire Weekend has graduated from theaters to arenas or amphitheaters in several markets. But their itinerary will bring them back to some large rooms that they’ve played before. On June 12, they’ll hit Atlanta’s Fox Theater, where they sold 2,800 tickets and grossed $113,400 in 2013. On Sept. 3, they’ll play Boston’s Agganis Arena, where they sold 5,105 tickets and grossed $201,187 that same year. And the band’s concluding gig at Red Rocks marks their return to the venue where, in 2013, they sold 9,088 tickets and grossed $388,311.

Vampire Weekend’s tour announcement follows last week’s release of “Harmony Hall” and “2021,” their first new songs in six years. Along with sharing those tracks, the band announced that their fourth album, Father of the Bride, will arrive this spring.
