Wilco
– Wilco

Courtney Barnett, The Feelies, and Jonathan Richman are among the artists joining Wilco June 28-30 for the 2019 installment of Solid Sound, the biannual music and art festival staged in collaboration with MASS MoCA in North Adams, Mass.

Solid Sound, in addition to art installations and music, hosts a plethora of activities including an Authors in Discussion element, sound installation from Genelec, a Reverb music auction, axe throwing, a Ghost Town screen printing workshop and of course the entirety of MASS MoCA – more than 250,000 square feet of galleries featuring notable artists like James Turrell, Laurie Anderson, Sol LeWitt, Jenny Holzer and Anselm Kiefer.

There will also be a comedy stage, outdoor and family activities, and of course local food, craft beer and cider.

But the main attraction, as always, is two headlining sets from Wilco – the band’s first performances in  more than a year.

Wilco’s been on a bit of an extended break since 2017, when it wrapped up two years on the road averaging 3,379 tickets sold and $172,976 gross per show as reported to Pollstar.

While the band’s recent performances have been rare, Jeff Tweedy has kept himself busy with solo tours and projects. Averaging 920 tickets per show sold and grossing $46,843 over the last three years, Tweedy has toured large clubs and theaters as numerous festival appearances. He’s touring in 2109 as well, with Buck Meek and James Elkington opening on select dates.

Tweedy’s also known for his collaborations with artists including Mavis Staples, Norah Jones, Billy Bragg and more, and he recently released a memoir, “Let’s Go (So We Can Get Back).”

Additional artists on the lineup include Tortoise, John Hodgman’s Comedy Cabaret, Clipping, Cate Le Bon, The Minus 5, Lonnie Holley, and much more.

A limited number of single day tickets goes on sale Feb. 28 at noon local time, with daily lineups announced at the same time. Weekend passes go for $189; Friday and Sunday tickets for $74 and Saturday for $129. Children’s tickets (ages 6-10) are marked at $55 and can be purchased at SolidSound Festival’s website.
