Andy Anderson died at the age of 68, Feb. 26 according to a former bandmate. During his career he played drums with The Cure and Iggy Pop.
The news was confirmed by founding member of The Cure Lol Tolhurst on social media
“Its with a heavy heart, I have to report the passing of a Cure brother,” Tolhurst wrote. “Andy Anderson was a true gentleman and a great musician with a wicked sense of humor which he kept until the end, a testament to his beautiful spirit on the last journey. We are blessed to have known him.”
“Cindy and I [heard] from some friends who were there with Andy as he passed at 5:57 pm UK time today. It is a small measure of solace to learn that he went peacefully at his home.”
Anderson shared Feb. 17 that he had been diagnosed with terminal 4 cancer. He said in that post that he decided to opt for no resuscitation.
In addition to his time with The Cure he worked as a session musician and released music under the name AAMuzik.
