Philadelphia’s Mann Center Names Joan Roebuck-Carter as SVP of Institutional Advancement

Philadelphia’s Mann Center for the Performing Arts has been going through some major changes, including more than $11 million in renovations – marking the first major renovations since the venue opened in 1976. And now the facility has named Joan Roebuck-Carter as senior vice president of institutional advancement as executive vice president Nancy Newman announces her retirement after 20 years at the Mann Center.
Roebuck-Carter will step into the role on June 3. She most recently served as the senior director of development and institutional support at Philadelphia’s Kimmel Center for more than eight years. Roebuck-Carter, who has more than 20 years of experience as a fundraising veteran, revived the Kimmel’s Corporate Giving Program and helped raised $25 million in funds from corporations, foundations and government entities.
Her resume also features a career in television production, including serving as senior associate producer at the Oprah Winfrey Show, as well as fundraising at the Philadelphia Museum of Art and serving as the vice president of development at the Allendale Association in Illinois.
“I am grateful to have experienced a dual career that allows me to explore my personal and career interests, which is why I’m thrilled to begin my work with the team at the Mann,” Roebuck-Carter said in a statement. “I have always admired the Mann as a unique treasure to our region and have enjoyed learning more about its commitment to Philadelphia and its embrace of the West Philadelphia community where it resides.
“The Mann gives us all a special place to enjoy the best music in a beautiful outdoor setting. But the Mann is also busy year-round, making inroads within communities throughout Philadelphia via its education initiatives and world class programming. In learning more about the Mann, I have also come to better understand and greatly appreciate the organization’s intentional commitment to diversity and inclusion and its sense of community.”
The Mann Center is hosting “Party in the Park: Beethoven’s 9th with The Philadelphia Orchestra” on June 24 to celebrate Newman’s retirement, conductor Yannick Nézet-Séguin’s debut appearance at the venue and the re-opening of the renovated Pavilion following the renovations. Improvements at the venue include new seating, VIP boxes, high definition screens, and air circulation fans.
Upcoming shows at the Mann Center include JuiceWRLD May 15, Old Dominion May 18, and the Roots Picnic June 1.
Recent Mann Center reports submitted to Pollstar’s Boxoffice department include a Sept. 27 concert by The National that sold 5,345 tickets and grossed $309,050.
