Fresh off two weekends headlining at Coachella, Tame Impala is planning a summer headline run that includes amphitheatres, an iconic arena, a performing arts center, and a very special club.
The band already had festival and headline dates booked in North America and Europe throughout May and June, starting at Ascend Amphitheater in Nashville May 2. The group also has festivals booked in Mexico and Australia.
The new dates begin July 26 at Budweiser Stage in Toronto and move through the Midwest and Northeast. Outside of sheds, the tour hits Madison Square Garden in New York Aug. 21,
Tickets for the new gigs go on sale April 26 at 10 a.m.
Tame Impala’s agent, Kevin French of Paradigm, spoke to Pollstar about getting a top spot at Coachella and the journey the Aussie band has taken to get to its current position, “Over the summer, I began discussing Coachella with Paul (Tollett), and entertaining the idea to play 2019. He really believes in Tame, and we both agreed with new music on the horizon, they were ready to headline. At the time, it was too soon to commit, so our sights were set on 2020. But towards the end of 2018, pieces started coming together and the timing felt right.”
“Coachella will be the launching pad for a busy 2019. Expect new music, and what I’m sure will be another exciting album campaign. I for one am definitely excited to see and hear what Tame comes up with next!”
The new music has already been trickling out, with two tracks already released in 2019, “Borderline” and “Patience.”
Tame Impala’s last reported date was at The Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, N.Y., with a $120,685 gross and 1,950 tickets sold.
