Austin City Limits Music Festival announced its 2019 lineup on Monday. For a seventh consecutive year, the event, produced by C3 Presents, will descend on Austin’s Zilker Park for two weekends, Oct. 4-6 and Oct. 11-13.
Guns N’ Roses, Mumford & Sons, Childish Gambino, The Cure, Billie Eilish and Tame Impala will top the bill both weekends, with Cardi B and Robyn serving as additional headliners on the first and second weekend, respectively.
Other prominent bookings include Kacey Musgraves, The Raconteurs, Gary Clark Jr., Lizzo, Thom Yorke (billed as Thom Yorke Tomorrow’s Modern Boxes), James Blake, Lil Uzi Vert, 21 Savage, Tyler Childers, Kali Uchis, Rosalía, Jenny Lewis and Kaytranada.
The Cure’s ACL booking is the fest’s most noteworthy, as it represents the first proper 2019 North American date for the band, which was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last month. (At the induction ceremony, frontman Robert Smith said he was “sure” they’d play North America “before the end of the year.”)
Guns N’ Roses’ ACL appearances will be the hard-rock band’s first Austin gigs since 1993 and mark its third 2019 North American festival booking, following announced gigs at September’s Louder Than Life Festival in Louisville, Ky. and October’s Exit 111 Festival in Manchester, Tenn. Since reforming in 2016, the hard-rock legends have appeared at No. 4 (2016), No. 2 (2017) and No. 16 (2018) on Pollstar‘s Year End Top 100 Worldwide Tours chart, grossing a gaudy $563.3 million over that period.
Childish Gambino, meanwhile, will headline ACL this year after a performance-related injury forced him to cancel his 2018 headlining appearance. Like Tame Impala, Childish Gambino has been a stalwart of this year’s festival circuit, headlining Coachella, Osheaga and C3’s own Lollapalooza. Other 2019 ACL headliners have been nearly as easy to find, including Cardi B (Bonnaroo), Robyn (Pitchfork) and Mumford & Sons (BottleRock, Kaaboo).
And Billie Eilish’s booking continues to cement the recent Hotstar‘s viability as a festival headliner, following similar bookings at Summerfest and Life Is Beautiful, along with topping the lineup for the recently announced Super Mega Ultra Giant Mad Decent Block Party Festival July 20-21 at Gillette Stadium.
“For us, it’s maintaining our identity and not losing focus of what our core roots are, for the festival and the brand,” C3’s Amy Corbin told Pollstar last fall.
