Devendra Banhart is headed back to stages in North American for his first tour of the continent since 2017.
The indie folk singer/songwriter has been busy showing off other artistic pursuits this year. In April Banhart published his first book of poetry, “Weeping Gang, Bliss Void, Yab Yum,” and also released a book of ink drawings, “Vanishing Wave,” which he created after traveling to Japan shortly after the Tohoku earthquake. Plus, last month Brooklyn-based clothing designer Alex Crane launched a limited- edition collaboration featuring Banhart’s drawings. In March Banhart put out Fragments du Monde Flottant, an LP of various musicians’ demos that he curated.
And now he has some tour dates to talk about. The road trip includes more than 20 gigs in the U.S. and two shows in Canada, starting on the West Coast with an Oct. 15 concert at the Majestic Ventura Theatre in Ventura, Calif. Black Belt Eagle Scout is coming along as support on many dates.
Stops include The Fillmore in San Francisco, Chicago’s Thalia Hall, Brooklyn Steel and 9:30 Club in Washington, D.C. Banhart is also playing Levitation Festival in Austin Nov. 7.
In partnership with, PLUS1, Banhart is donating $1 from every ticket sold to World Central Kitchen (WCK), an organization founded by Chef José Andrés to fight hunger around the world. The charity, which has served more than 350,000 meals to date, is currently responding to the crisis on the Colombia-Venezuelan border.
Tickets go on sale Friday May 31 at 10 a.m. local time.
Last year the singer/songwriter played a handful of dates, including appearing at Tropicalia Music & Taco Festival in Long Beach, Calif. Boxoffice reports submitted to Pollstar for his 2017 tour include a March 16, 2017, show at Webster Hall in New York that sold 1,500 tickets and grossed $42,000.
