Festivals Go Pop, And Pop Goes Rap: Tyler The Creator, playing last year’s Coachella, this year headlines Friday night at Governors Ball in New York.
Fresh off the release of a chart-topping album, Tyler, The Creator has announced a full arena tour throughout North America with support from GoldLink, Jaden Smith, and Blood Orange
Tyler has a few festivals on the routing, including Firefly in Delaware June 21 and Bumbershoot in Seattle Aug. 30 through Sept. 1. After that the headliners get underway Sept. 2 at Minneapolis’s The Armory, and then is mostly at arenas until Oct. 26 at NRG Arena in Houston.
The general onsales for most markets begins June 7.
He also has three nights at London’s O2 Brixton Sept. 16-18. Tyler also has his own hometown festival, Camp Flog Gnaw Festival, lined up at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles this year.
Tyler just rocked Day One of Governors Ball festival in New York May 31. The third day was evacuated due to inclement weather on Day 3.
Tyler led the Elite 100 Artists chart in the streams categry for the week ending May 23, with 150.3 million on-demand streams. He came on at No. 2 overall, with 121,800 total album units, with 11,600 album sales and 12,100 song sales after the release of IGOR May 17.
Tyler’s touring career was at one time hamstrung by protestations worldwide about misogynistic lyrics, but the artist largely seems to have pulled off a successful rebrand, and his business is booming. Last year he grossed $421,509 over two nights at Hulu Theater At Madison Square Garden Feb 23-24, and more than $200,000 in Washington, D.C.; Duluth, Ga.; San Diego, Calif.; and Portland, Ore.
