Wilco Returns To U.S. For First North American Tour Since 2017

Wilco
– Wilco

Wilco is returning to venues in the States after its previously announced European outing and its own curated Solid Sound Festival in Massachusetts for its first North American tour since 2017.

The Jeff Tweedy-led sextet will hit the road for the month of October, appearing at Toronto’s Budweiser Stage with special guest Lord Huron Oct. 8, then hit venues east of the Rockies though Oct. 27 in Austin for the second of two shows at ACL Live at the Moody Theater.

Wilco will also double up Boch Center Wang Theater in Boston Oct. 10-11, before stops including New York City, Washington, D.C.; Atlanta, Nashville, and Houston.

Tickets go on sale this Friday, June 7 at 10 a.m. local time and can be purchased through the band’s website. More Wilco news will be announced in the coming weeks.

The bookings leave plenty of room in between before Wilco’s Jan. 18-21 visit to the Riviera Maya in Mexico, as part of its own destination event, Sky Blue Sky. Wilco will perform three shows as part of the all-inclusive event, and Tweedy will have a solo concert as well. Joining them on the sandy beaches in January are Courtney Barnett, Sharon Van Etten, Kamasi Washington, Dr. Dog, Calexico, Yo La Tengo and more.

Wilco toured extensively from 2014-17 before taking a rest from the road. During that time, the band averaged 3,492 tickets sold per show for a gross of $178,887 reported to Pollstar.

But first comes Solid Sound in North Adams, Mass., June 26-28. In addition to art installations and music, the eclectic fest hosts a plethora of activities including an Authors in Discussion element, sound installation from Genelec, a Reverb music auction, axe throwing, a Ghost Town screen printing workshop and of course the entirety of MASS MoCA – more than 250,000 square feet of galleries featuring notable artists like James Turrell, Laurie Anderson, Sol LeWitt, Jammy Holzer and Anselm Kiefer.

There will also be a comedy stage, outdoor and family activities and of course local food, craft beer and cider.

While the band’s recent performances have been rare, Tweedy has kept himself busy with solo tours and projects. Averaging 925 tickets per show sold and grossing $46,775 over the last three years as reported to Pollstar, Tweedy has toured large clubs and theaters and made numerous festival appearances. He’s also known for his collaborations with artists including Mavis Staples, Norah Jones, Billy Bragg and more, and he recently released a memoir, “Let’s Go (So We Can Get Back).”
