Brittany Howard of Alabama Shakes gives a passionate performance at New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival in Louisiana April 29.
Brittany Howard, of Alabama Shakes, Bermuda Triangle and Thunderbitch, has announced her debut solo album is in the works and she will be playing a series of dates in North America and Europe to support the new tunes. 
The new project, Jaime, is named after her sister, who passed away when Howard was a teenager. She detailed the significance of the project in a letter shared on social media.

The album is due out Sept. 20.
The accompanying tour is scheduled to run from August to October, with headline dates at such venues as 9:30 Club in Washington, D.C.; The Ryman Auditorium in Tennessee; the Beacon Theatre in New York; and The Fillmore in Philadelphia. She also has festival slots lined up at Austin City Limits Music Festival Oct. 12 and Afropunk in Atlanta Oct. 13. 
Citi cardholders and her fanclub have access to a presale that began today and tickets go on sale to the general public June 28. 
With the announcement that Howard is doing some solo stuff, it may be safe to assume that Alabama Shakes is on hold for the time being. The Shakes last toured in 2017, with shows including a $339,520 gross at Thompson’s Point in Portland, Maine, and a $265,490 gross at Rockland Trust Bank Pavilion in Boston. Prior to that the band released two albums and won four Grammy Awards.
Howard’s latest single, “History Repeats” was released today along with the tour announcement.
