With three Emmy nominations for her Netflix documentary “Homecoming: A Film by Beyoncé” (which received a total of six), Beyoncé could be headed for cherished EGOT territory, as she is likely to receive both Grammy and Oscar nominations for her upcoming original song, “Spirit” from “The Lion King,” co-written with Ilya Salmanzadeh and Labrinth.

If Queen Bey nails both an Oscar and an Emmy, she lacks only a Tony Award (T) to nail the cherished honor. The singing superstar has a total of 23 Grammys and 66 nominations, more than any other female artist.
Beyoncé has been nominated for an Emmy three previous times but failed to win, including nods for outstanding special class programs for On the Run in 2015, a collaboration with husband Jay Z.  She was nominated for two awards for Lemonade in 2016, including outstanding variety, music or comedy special, and outstanding directing for a variety special.
Her Emmy nominations for this year include outstanding directing for a variety special (shared with Ed Burke), outstanding music direction (shared with Derek Dixie) and outstanding writing for a variety special.
While Beyoncé seeks her first Academy Award nomination, she did perform three of the nominated songs from “Dreamgirls” with Jennifer Hudson at the 2007 televised ceremony.
Of course, she’s still queen of the road in many ways, following her 2018 Coachella headlining appearance and On The Run II Tour with Jay Z which grossed $254.1 million in 2018, good for No. 3 worldwide on the year.
Among the other music-related Emmy nominees were a pair of documentaries about pop stars turned sexual abusers, HBO’s controversial two-part, four-hour “Leaving Neverland,” which grabbed five nomination (including outstanding documentary or nonfiction special), and Lifetime’s six-episode “Surviving R. Kelly,” which nailed one (outstanding informational series or special), while helping to bring the embattled R&B star into police custody.
Nominees for Outstanding Music Supervision went to Thomas Golubic (“Better Call Saul”), Steven Gizicki (Fosse/Verdon), Robin Urdang/Amy Sherman-Palladino (“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”), Jasper Leak (“Quincy”) and Brienne Rose (“Russian Doll”).
