Sinusitis Prompts Steven Van Zandt Cancellations
Illness is forcing Steven Van Zandt to cancel the majority of his upcoming tour, except for November gigs in the Boston and New York markets. Refunds are being issued at point of sale.
“I thought I could shake this sinusitis, but it doesn’t seem to be going away,” Van Zandt said in a statement. “I’ve never canceled shows before. I feel terrible about this, but my doctors are telling me there’s just no way to continue right now. We were really looking forward to continuing this 90-show tour around the world. We want to thank the fans for all of their support. I really hope we can make up these dates someday somehow.”
The NYC shows at The Beacon Theatre Nov. 6 are going ahead and will be filmed for a live DVD and album. The Nov. 2 shows at Chevalier Theatre in Medford, Mass., are also remaining on the schedule.
The cancellations began last week, on doctor’s orders, for plays in Kansas, Kentucky and Texas, and continue now throughout the tour. The nixed events were scheduled throughout the regional South and Midwest.
Little Stevie Van Zandt took his Disciples Of Soul around the U.S. on a tour to benefit the Rock and Roll Forever Foundation last year.
He has had a break from his role with The E Street Band while Bruce Springsteen held court at the Walter Kerr Theatre on Broadway, and The Boss quashed rumors of any 2019 action on E Street with a statement, reading, “While we hope to be back with you soon, the E Street Band won’t be touring in 2019. Before I go back to my day job, the year will be consumed with a break after our Broadway run and various recording projects I’ve been working on.”
Little Steven has been doing business on his own, reporting a pair of stops Down Under this year – in Milsons Point and Melbourne – to grosses of $46,105 and $42,130 respectively. He is touring in support of his latest album, Summer Of Sorcery, and two volumes of Lilyhammer The Score with The Interstellar Jazz Renegades.
