Lalo Medina has been Jack White’s tour manager since 2007, but became a tour manager after meeting Ozomatli in the mid-90s.
“At the time I was teaching high school English and they figured if I could take care of a bunch of teenagers, I could take care of them. Still not sure they were right about that,” Medina says.
The Dodgers diehard (condolences) and White are like two peas in a pod when it comes to baseball, and the tour manager counts some of their extracurricular ballpark travel among his favorite time on the road, including meeting ‘88 World Series hero Kirk Gibson just a few months ago.
While the internet has made it a lot easier to find great places to stay and eat, (“That duck confit I ate at the Belgian cafe in Pittsburgh was so damn good”), Medina says one challenege remains: “Finding decent tequila in Europe. Hey Europe, literally nobody likes Cuervo Gold.”
Medina shares the love, giving advice that “The golden rule always applies. From the promoter to the security guard in the parking lot, everyone deserves to be treated with kindness and respect” and says of his time with The Raconteurs and Jack White, “As great of an artist as he is, he’s an even better human being.”
