– Rock Hallers Hit The Road
Journey and Pretenders will embark on an extensive tour from May to September 2020.

Two Rock & Roll Hall of Fame acts will hit the road together next summer. Journey and Pretenders announced a 60-date tour Thursday that will take the bands to arenas and sheds across the continent from May to September.

The trek begins May 15 at Sunlight Supply Amphitheater in Ridgefield, Wash., and concludes nearly four months later on Sept. 12 at Bethel Woods Center for the Arts in Bethel, N.Y. Along the way, Journey and Pretends will hit major arenas, like Los Angeles-area The Forum (May 23) and Denver’s Pepsi Center (June 4), as well as prominent amphitheaters, including Alpine Valley Music Theatre in East Troy, Wisc. (June 6), and Atlanta’s Cellaris Amphitheatre at Lakewood (Aug. 13).

Of the ’80s arena rock legends still active, Journey remains one of the most bankable on the road, securing spots on Pollstar‘s Year End Top 100 Worldwide Tours chart each of the last three years. Last year, Journey’s co-headlining tour with Def Leppard – for which Pretenders opened several dates – ranked No. 12 on the chart with $97.8 million grossed worldwide.

The tour stopped at several of the venues Journey will play in 2020, including Hersheypark Stadium in Hershey, Penn., where Journey and Def Leppard sold 26,753 tickets and grossed $1.89 million, and Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena, where the two bands sold 14,395 tickets and grossed $1.83 million, according to Pollstar Boxoffice reports.

In 2016, another co-headlining tour, with Doobie Brothers, ranked No. 44 with $35.1 million grossed. The following year, Journey appeared on the chart at No. 64 with $32.8 million grossed.

While Pretenders have opened for artists including Journey, Phil Collins and Stevie Nicks in recent years, the band is also a consistent draw on the theater circuit. Recent box office highlights for the band include an April 2018 gig at Boston’s Orpheum Theatre that sold 2,645 tickets and grossed $138,946, and a July 2018 show at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium that sold 1,870 tickets and grossed $130,453.
