At the dawn of the new decade, a teenage Justin Bieber rode YouTube covers to international fame. It’s fitting that one of the few artists to parlay viral success into global megastardom would appear on Pollstar’s artists of the decade list.
Bieber’s three staggeringly successful tours made him a perennial presence at the top of Pollstar’s charts for much of the decade, highlighted by 2013 and 2016, when he placed in the top ten of the Year End Top 100 Worldwide Tours Chart, with grosses of $169 million and $163.3 million, respectively. Notably, he’s done so while keeping ticket prices low: Of his top 10 company in 2016, only Coldplay and Garth Brooks had lower average ticket prices. International touring has also played a major role for Bieber, who has racked up gaudy numbers from São Paulo to Dubai.
His three-night 2013 stand in Fernebu, Norway set a venue record, raking in $7.9 million, and no artist grossed more over two nights at Stockholm’s Tele2 Arena than Bieber, who notched $5.5 million there in 2016. At his side the entire time: manager Scooter Braun, who discovered the fledgling musician, then 13, in 2008.?
