Deryck Whibley of Sum 41 commands the crowd at Rock Am Ring at Airfield Mendig in Germany June 3.
A team up by The Offspring and Sum 41 for a Down Under run in the southern autumn sold out in two hours.
The tour makes stops at HBF Stadium, Perth (April 19), Adelaide Entertainment Centre Theatre (21), Margaret Court Arena, Melbourne (23), Hordern Pavilion, Sydney (24), Riverstage, Brisbane (25) and Spark Arena, Auckland (28).
After a particularly strong pre-registration, the five Australian dates hit capacity of almost 30,000. Chris O’Brien, GM of touring at Destroy All Lines, told Pollstar he expected the Auckland, New Zealand, date to sell out end of this week.
“We worked hard on the price point,” he pointed out. “We kept it under $120 for two international bands, which we thought was great value for those level of rooms.
“They’re great live acts and they complement each other really nicely.”
He added that Destroy All Lines’ reputation for not discounting tickets meant “punters knew there’s no way they’d get them cheaper if they waited, so we came out of the box really strongly.”
Marketing was primarily through social media, and a team-up with rock radio network Triple M.
What helped was the April run marks The Offspring’s first headline tour here in 16 years, The act has visited in the interim on festivals as Soundwave and Warped, and primarily just played the 1994 album Smash in its entirety on its last visit, on Good Things festival in 2018.
Sum 41 last visited as part of Download 2019.
Both acts co-headlined a tour in Canada in November last year.
