Storms in Germany have led to the cancellation of this year’s Wacken Winter Nights, one of the many events promoted by the ICS Network. It would have been the fourth edition of Wacken Winter Nights, an event combining classical medieval themes with fantasy, folk, pagan, viking, rock, metal and more.
Wacken Winter Nights 2020 was scheduled to take place Feb. 14-16, but promoters have informed the public that continuing strong gusts of wind have caused delays in the build-up. And since meteorologists expect the situation to get worse during the upcoming weekend, it was decided to cancel the upcoming event, after close consultation with the responsible authorities.

“The safety of fans, staff, bands, and all other parties involved is the most important criterion,” they wrote in a statement, which means that the fourth edition of the winter festival in Wacken will not take place until February 2021.
“It is with the greatest regret that we have been forced to cancel this year’s Wacken Winter Nights due to the extraordinary weather conditions with persistent extreme winds”, Helge Rudolph of Full Entertainment, which is part of the ICS Network, explained.
“We understand and share the huge disappointment of visitors and artists. Despite the unfavorable circumstances, our team has been working day and night in order to make the festival happen and provide the fans with a great experience. However, the safety of all those present is always our biggest priority so we feel compelled to take this step,” Rudolph continued.
The extreme winter storms over Germany have been holding up on site construction since last weekend. According to the people on site, building up the main stage and the tent cannot be continued in the foreseeable future without endangering the safety of the crew, in particular in light of another serious storm expected for Saturday evening, Feb. 15.
Tickets already purchased will remain valid for the next Wacken Winter Nights, which are expected to take place Feb. 19-21, 2021.
As an additional compensation, ticket holders are invited by the festival promoters – in cooperation with Förde Show Concept – to attend the Felsenburg Festival 2020 in the Kalkberg Arena in Bad Segeberg, May 2, free of charge.
Medieval rock stars Saltatio Mortis and Feuerschwanz will perform there, among others.
Alternatively, tickets can be returned at the respective ticket agencies, where they were bought.
