“Music is an emotional force of transformation – it can change people’s moods, their outlook on life, and sometimes, it can unite the world,” Jason Felts, CEO and Founder of Virgin Fest, says in a statement. “We are embracing the dream that music can bring to get us to a better place – for our fans, for our people, for our communities and for our planet. We envision a tomorrow where festivals live and breathe the extraordinary – VIRGIN FEST looks to lead that charge.”

Backed by Virgin founder Sir Richard Branson, Virgin Fest will mark 50 years of the Virgin brand. Co-founder and CEO Felts also worked as chief brand officer for Kaaboo festival, which was recently acquired by Virgin and announced a move to downtown San Diego and re-brand as Kaaboo San Diego for 2020.
The new Virgin Fest is being billed as having a focus on music, tech, and “people and planet” on three main stages.  While Virgin served as sponsor of the V Fests and Virgin Mobile FreeFests of previous years, the new event is otherwise not related.
“My love of music led me to start Virgin Records nearly five decades ago,” Virgin founder Branson said in a statement. “I’m thrilled that Virgin’s musical heritage lives on through Virgin Fest. We look forward to bringing Virgin’s expertise in customer experience, innovation, and entertainment to our festival in Los Angeles, a place that has always been very near and dear to my heart.”
As previously reported, the festival’s environmental efforts include preventing waste with no single-use plastic bottles or straws onsite, as well as a “first of its kind” reusable or deposit cup system.
To further eliminate waste and give back to the community, surplus food will be donated to local homeless shelters, according to the announcement.  Also, Virgin Fest is partnering with the LA Metro to offer free round-trip TAP trips per person to get fans to and from the event.
“By combining Virgin’s signature hospitality and ingenuity with a strong sense of purpose, our team built the festival of tomorrow, today,” Branson added in a statement. “We are proud to bring VIRGIN FEST to LA and to be on track to become one of the United States’ greenest festivals.”
