Mazzy Star co-founder David Roback has died at the age of 61 according to a band representative and reported by multiple outlets.  His cause of death was not disclosed.

Roback, before starting Mazzy Star with Hope Sandoval, also was behind psychedelic “Paisley Underground” bands including Rain Parade and Opal, the precursor to Mazzy Star.
The Santa Monica-based group’s biggest hit was “Fade Into You,” and the band released three acclaimed and influential albums in the ’90s before its 2013 LP, Seasons Of Your Day.
Roback with Mazzy Star played guitar, keyboards and piano, writing almost all the music and producing their recordings.
Artists including Sleigh Bells, Biz Markie, the New Pornographers’ AC Newman, Dinosaur Jr. frontman J Mascis and others paid tribute on social media.
The band was a client of High Road Touring, with recent dates reported to Pollstar including Feb. 26-27 2019 at The Cathedral Sanctuary at Immanuel Presbyterian in Los Angeles, which sold 3,133 tickets, and Feb. 24 at Fox Theater in Oakland, which sold 2,913.
The band’s last full tour was in 2013, playing venues including the Fillmore Silver Spring in Maryland, Terminal 5 in New York, and Danforth Music Hall in Toronto.
